The project focused on revitalising and reintegrating the western seafront of Loano, at the heart of the Ligurian "Palm Riviera". It aimed to restore the essential link between the coastline and the town centre from a structural, architectural, and landscape point of view. Spanning over a kilometre, the initiative created an urban-naturalistic corridor designed to revive vitality and services in a section currently facing degradation and neglect. The project aims to enhance contemporary accessibility along the urban stretch, focusing on vehicle usability and integrating pedestrian traffic. Pedestrian access is prioritised, expanding onto the roadway to create a controlled traffic zone. This extension of the seafront avenue facilitates spaces for events and demonstrations. The parking system and public transport stops are redesigned, incorporating special level differences and underground passages to connect the urban stretch beyond the railway, currently a barrier to the full urban usability of the promenade. The new urban vision prioritises maximum sustainability and accessibility, achieved through the installation of elevators and ramps that eliminate obstacles and architectural barriers. The lighting design project employs LED technologies and home automation mechanisms to ensure efficient use of energy. Extensive attention is given to landscaping and the seafront, aiming to enhance the iconic presence of local palm trees and introduce a design that harmonises with the colours and rhythm of the territory. The texture and materials used in paving and street furniture reflect a commitment to showcasing local stone and enhancing the pedestrian experience.
