The urban redevelopment project of Trino, conducted under the "2006 OLYMPICS programme," resonates deeply with the historical journey of this city. Trino, once a prominent figure in Italian and European history during the medieval and Renaissance periods, gradually declined in significance as the centre of gravity shifted to Turin under the rule of the Savoys. The in-depth analysis of historical cartography uncovered that the urban layout of the capital still retained the ancient structure of the fortified city. This discovery revealed new possibilities for utilising the Historic Centre, aligning with current needs while respecting its historical significance. Guided by this principle, we established project guidelines aimed at creating a comprehensive territorial redesign through "landscaping". This approach involved not only enhancing two-dimensional features such as pavements and paths but also integrating three-dimensional elements. By considering volumetric perceptions of urban spaces and implementing alignments, greenery, facades, and new constructions, we aimed to transform and enrich the overall experience of the area. We completely redesigned public lighting to enhance the perception of architectural highlights, improve pedestrian pathways, and ensure perceptual safety for citizens. This transformation aimed to overcome the modest and unremarkable impression that the city conveyed at dusk before our intervention.
