Monteriggioni, built by the Sienese between 1213 and 1219, stands as one of Italy's most classic and prestigious walled villages. Its walls span 570 meters, punctuated by 14 towers and two defensive gates. A meticulous study of its construction phases and ancient building techniques provided insights into the architectural complex's history through stratigraphic analysis. Guided by this methodological approach, the restoration project prioritised conservation and the enhancement of the artefact, advocating for a "measured" intervention that would respect the existing structures. The intervention encompassed a series of procedures aimed at both the comprehensive cleaning and the assessment of the conservation status of the vertical wall facings and their corresponding crests. Special attention was paid to preserving the legibility of the historical artefact and its construction phases, avoiding the introduction of new elements that could compromise its integrity. The detailed study and documentation of the evolution of the conservation status relied on precise topographic surveys and orthophotograms, utilising advanced technologies such as satellite imagery and/or drones equipped with laser scanners, and photogrammetric surveys.
