The project focused on seismic retrofitting using elastomeric isolators and enhancing energy efficiency at the iconic Palazzo della Regione in Piazza d'Armi. Situated at the base of the ancient Etruscan city, this building stands as a well-preserved example of Italian rationalist architecture, designed by architect Annibale Vitellozzi. The project leveraged years of experience and refined calculation tools in the field to achieve optimal balance and effective distribution of thicknesses between the foundation, beams, and the upper surface of the seismic devices. This approach aimed to minimise the number of isolators while increasing the load-bearing capacity of the slab to manage costs and potential archaeological interferences, all aimed at optimising total costs, construction timelines, and reducing unexpected events and potential downtime on the construction site. In addition to seismic retrofitting, significant attention and urgency were directed towards energy efficiency and the strategic planning of maintenance operations, prompting extensive interventions in construction and plant engineering.
