The scope of the intervention was the conservation and restoration of the existing structures to ensure complete usability and accessibility, with a view to repurpose the buildings for multifunctional cultural use, including exhibition activities. The project also focused on preserving and enhancing the elements of industrial archaeology present within the former power plant building and the Forza e Luce station, located in the eastern portion of the new Arsenal. The project is part of the "Plan for the Development and Strengthening of the Activities of La Biennale di Venezia for the Construction of a Permanent Centre of National and International Excellence," financed under the Prime Ministerial Decree of October 8, 2021, using resources from the National Plan for Complementary Investments to the PNRR. Key elements of the project include the conservation of industrial archaeological remains, the restoration of metal structures, the creation of multifunctional spaces, and the installation of essential services. The initiative aimed to replace outdated elements with contemporary materials, comply with current safety standards, and ensure accessibility for disabled individuals. The overarching goal was to preserve historical integrity whilst adapting the structures for modern use, striking a balance between conservation and functional enhancement.
