The property under intervention is part of a listed historic complex with a broader development context. The former Convent of San Francesco di Montefalco houses the "San Marco" hospital in one section, while the remainder functions as a museum, including the former church of San Francesco renowned for its artistic treasures, notably paintings by eminent artists such as Benozzo Gozzoli and Perugino. The Design Group's work focused on detailed examination of the architectural elements to assess material conservation, identify causes of degradation and anomalies, and select appropriate consolidation techniques. The design main objective was to prioritise the user's centrality in service and space utilisation. This involved adherence to criteria such as accessibility, functional density, confidentiality, and urbanity in addition to the architectural definition of each functional area. The project significantly reconfigured the distribution of various levels to achieve independence within the portion of the building. This necessitated the addition of a new vertical circulation core—stairs and an elevator—strategically positioned to serve the new activities across different levels.
