CONTRACTORS

The contract involves the redevelopment and refurbishment of the former Gubbio Hospital, owned by USL Umbria 1, to ensure appropriate, efficient, and effective healthcare services for the local population. The facility encompasses properties owned by USL Umbria 1, where both inpatient and outpatient services are provided under the management of the Regional Health Service. Situated within Gubbio's historic centre near the city walls dating back to the 13th and 14th centuries, the building occupies the entire quadrant between Via Ortacci and Via Camillo Benso Conte di Cavour, specifically located on the southwestern side of Piazza Quaranta Martiri. The property involved in the intervention is a historic building defined by exposed stone masonry, openings with stone frames, and period friezes. With multiple access points from Piazza Quaranta Martiri and Via Cavour, the building spans various levels (three above-ground floors, mezzanine levels, and two underground levels), totalling approximately 3,280 square meters, excluding load-bearing walls and stairwells. The project includes the creation of a new reception and connection area on the ground floor within the current courtyard, located centrally in the building. This area will also house a medical clinic and provide access to an elevator serving the various levels of the building. This elevator, essential for ensuring the functionality of the healthcare facility, was repositioned closer to the building (north side) compared to the initial architectural plan. This adjustment was made to safeguard areas of archaeological interest uncovered during the investigation campaign, as mandated by the Superintendence. The new reception area will be connected to the CUP and the Sampling Centre (southern side) via a passageway with a walking height of -1.60 meters relative to the current garden level. The walls of this new structure will predominantly feature glazing to ensure a harmonious relationship between the interior and exterior spaces. Additionally, the roofs will be green treated, in agreement with the Superintendency, to ensure proper integration with the surrounding context. Additionally, within the garden area near the "southern staircase," a second elevator will be constructed ("optional works") to meet functional and distribution needs. The architectural proposal significantly rethinks the distribution aspects across various levels, aiming to seamlessly unify the currently fragmented internal spaces and restore proper emphasis to the pathways. The design was meticulously coordinated across all areas, respecting the existing architectural composition without compromising functionality.
