The Cloister of S. Uldarico is one of the first buildings in Parma from the 1400s to feature Renaissance motifs, which are still visible in the capitals of the columns. It also showcases two beautiful terracotta frames: one beneath the loggia parapet with classic oval motifs, and another in the eaves cornice adorned with large flower-shaped rosettes between the brackets. This cloister is considered a transitional work between Gothic and Parma Renaissance architecture and is, understandably, subject to the constraints of the Superintendency of Architectural, Historical, and Artistic Heritage. The state-owned property, situated adjacent to the Church of Sant'Uldarico, has a regular rectangle-like plan. The building comprises two colonnaded floors and a blind attic, and both the ground floor portico and the first-floor loggia feature cross vaults. An analysis of the damage revealed numerous issues and instabilities, making the building extremely vulnerable. This was exacerbated by the lack of structurally efficient elements to counterbalance the present thrusts and a heavy, thrusting roof slab. The planned interventions focused on repairing and strengthening the structure, improving the pre-existing safety conditions, with particular attention to seismic actions.
