Following the awarding of the tender by the State Property Agency, Politecna Europa and SAB commenced the redevelopment project of the former Randaccio Barracks in Brescia, which is set to become the new headquarters of the Italian Revenue Agency.
The restoration and repurposing of the two historic buildings will accommodate the new offices, while the newly constructed volume will house the front office and archive functions.
Our proposal was recognised for its attention to the relationship between the old and the new, which is reflected in an architectural language that is both distinctive and harmonious, successfully balancing the demands of preservation and innovation.
The new structure, characterised by innovative, recyclable, and modular elements, functions as a true "graft" that enhances the original façades of the architectural complex. The new photovoltaic glass skin, which is easy to disassemble, is independent of the historic walls, while the newly crafted gables frame the 19th-century façades.
